How much was the estimated market size for frac pumps for the year 2015? Leading contributors to the Frac pump sales? Who is the market leader?

To establish a baseline for demand, on which to apply growth rates, BSI calculates demand in a Base Year, in this case 2015, both top down and bottom up.

The calculation of demand for the base year relies on a triangulation of our in-house subject matter experts’ knowledge, third party reports, primary research, and secondary research.

Industry Experts: Our in-house leading industry experts have intimate knowledge of the size and composition for each market, gaining their insights on overall market size, as well as category revenues by supplier.

Primary Research: We interview buyers and suppliers in each category of equipment.

Secondary Research: From our extensive library of specialized industry trade publications, news releases, and research papers, we reconcile information on absolute demand, supplier revenues, demand composition, and other factors that are important to the industry’s competitive dynamics.

BSI’s capacity utilization calculation aggregates, qualifies, quantifies, prioritizes, and analyzes data points from manufacturers, distributors, buyers, and industry experts.

We collect data on capacity margin and capacity utilization primarily through interviews, either during specially-scheduled debrief sessions, trade show discussions, or phone conversations.

We qualify this data based on supplier rank (to avoid giving undue weight to smaller suppliers), and cross-reference individual data points between interviewees, experts, and secondary sources such

The data collection, qualification, and analysis process for lead times is similar to that for capacity utilization. Lead time data points undergo the same vetting process, and we use the same controls to ensure regional balance.

In addition to obtaining lead times from interviews and subject matter experts, we calculate lead time econometrically, using demand growth, capacity utilization, and backlog levels. We incorporate both methodologies into our forecasts to mitigate differences in individual buyer or supplier perspectives.

Lead time also influences backlog, prices, demand, and capacity investments. These effects are matched up with capacity margin and utilization in our model, and cross-checked for any discrepancies.

Cost Structure Methodology

We establish category cost structures using a composite of data from our subject matter experts.

The cost structures are specific to the reference product.

We collect cost element allocations independently from our technical experts as well, and then reconcile them withinput from othersources.

These assumptions are calibrated to customize the cost structure to specific size ranges and design preferences on the part of the customer, including weight adjustments for different metals, labor types, and auxiliary equipment (such as controls or environmental protection equipment).

We cross-verify these allocations during our research process, checking our cost structures with executives at top suppliers.

With an increase in the pressure and flow requirement for frac pumps, the profile of suppliers has changed.

This section gives you insight about the present industry division and some of the other activities taking shape in the industry.

Effective supply chain management is crucial for frac pump projects. David Jacoby’s book, The Guide to Supply Chain Management, proposes nine ways to reduce cost through more effective supply chain management. It also proposes eight ways to increase reliability through more effective supply chain management.

BSI evaluates technological innovations by the benefit that they create for buyers/users. Many suppliers portray product line extensions or new models as new technologies.

However, from our perspective, any new technology must link to a financial benefit, for example lower cost, higher throughput (=revenue), or better asset utilization.

We try to quantify the benefit to the extent possible, and the higher the benefit, the more significant is the technology.

To make effective use of the work that has been produced in this study, we recommend that you evaluate and consider taking one or more of the following action steps mentioned in this section.

For-Hire Liquid Bulk Storage Services: Supply Market Overview
The market for liquid bulk storage, transloading, and railcar storage is near capacity, but capacity can be found if you know where to look. This report summarizes the results of a study that compiled primary and secondary research across the continental US into key messages that are needed for both buyers and suppliers. It contains a summary of Industry Flows and Channels, and profiles of the Tank Farms Supply Market, the Transload Facilities Supply Market, and the Railcar Storage Supply Market. The analysis includes segmentation, positioning, and sizing of the key players in each of these service areas, profiles of four tank farm operators, and buyer perspectives on eight suppliers. Summary tables include market share (tank farms), capacity available (based on limited data), and OSHA Incidents for selected facilities. Research is based on a companion database of 1,990 tank farms, 845 transload facilities, and 351 railcar storage locations.

Transload and Railcar Storage Facility Database
Finding transload and railcar storage locations can be a time-consuming task with an imperfect result. This database contains information on 76 tank farms, 839 transload facilities, and 351 railcar storage locations in the US. Data includes (where available): Supplier Name, Terminal Name, City, State, Zip (3 digits), Type of Facility (tank farm, transload, railcar storage), Revenue, Employees, Number of OSHA Violations, Regulatory Compliance (SARA, OPA, SPCC, OSHA HazCom), Type of Liquid Bulk Handled, Inbound and Outbound Accessibility by Mode, and Capacity. The database was part of a study that is summarized in a 33-page companion Powerpoint presentation.

 African Natural Resource Monitor
Africa’s doggedly slow movement into containerization could provide an opportunity for terminal operators that are willing to cross over into bulk. The delayed arrival of containerization is a problem, and African policy makers know it. The lack of containerization has kept logistics costs high, and inefficient bulk trades have contributed to Africa’s slow economic development. How is this affecting trade in Africa, and what opportunities and threats does it present to investors, shippers, and consumers of these commodities?
